Camera Recommendation

In general, you get better stills and better quality movies from using an inexpensive still camera than you do with inexpensive video cameras.

Still cameras record audio, though not all can take an external mic. You can search for a camera by looking at this model and using the Internet

to compare its features and cost with other cameras. See our Camera Recommendations.

Still camera that shoots video, too:  Canon A550 IS

  • Shoots great stills and records audio and video (We suggest you get a 1 GB SD memory card to record about 60 mins of video.). Downloads to iPhoto or on PC has its own photo-image edit software.
  • The 7.1 effective Megapixel PowerShot A550 camera
  • 16MB secure digital memory card
  • Two AA-alkaline batteries
  • Wrist strap
  • USB cable
  • A/V cable

Video only camera

  • The Flip camera-- simple, easy to use, good in low-light, not good for stills-- but good web video and audio
    • Read David Pogue's review from NYTimes
    • The Flip site where it looks like they are trying to make this device "cool" like the iPod ( and they just may do it.)
    • For PC/Windows users, comes with easy to use movie editing software
    • Has a built-in USB plug
