Digital Photos and Images

  • If you have a camera, but need some help getting images onto a computer, edited, and posted on the web, start below.
  • Start with our  Camera Recommendations  if you don't have a camera yet.
  • Try vuvox.com for an interesting horizontal scrolling slideshow

The first steps

Where is your photo? Where are you working? How will you move, edit, save and share an image? You need to know about sharing and about image formats.

To be viewable on the web, an image must be in .jpg, .gif, or .png format. Set your camera to take images in one of those formats. If you end up with an image that needs to be converted from TIFF or another format to one that is viewable on the web, use Photoshop or the Web 2.0 app, picnik.com to convert from one format to another.

Phone cameras:

Use Bluetooth wireless if your computer supports it, or send your photos to an online site via multimedia or text messaging, then download the images to your computer. If your phone can connect to WiFi, then you can send the images via WiFi if it is available. The USB cable that came with your phone can connect it to a computer for direct copying.
